Traffic is essential for the existence of any blog or website. It plays a major role in the existence of your blog and it is also the chief determining factor on how much profit you will make from your blog. In the blogging aspect, your traffic in the first 2 months after your blog’s creation can be very discouraging and you will be questioning yourself “how do these guys get up to 30,000 plus traffic per month?”

You can sign up for google webmaster which is now called search console, verify your blog through any of the means shown to you- “mostly meta tag method for blogger” and then submit your sitemap to them.

Your sitemap shows the structure of your blog, your contents and also enables googlebots crawl your blog with ease. Submit your sitemap to Bing and yahoo too although not much traffic do come from there but every drop can make a whole right?

You can access your sitemap by entering your URL into your browser in this format. https://www.myblogurl.com/sitemap.xml. Replace “myblogurl” with your actual domain name and then enter it to view your sitemap. Optimize your blog for search engines by adding a Meta description to your blog, using keywords in your post, making your post title appear before your blog title and using an SEO friendly template.


3. Email marketing: won’t it be more fun if you make your readers come back to your blog each time to read your post? Sure it would be; you can achieve this through building an email list. An email list is a collection of email addresses for the purpose of sharing information. Add an email update or newsletter sign up form to your blog mostly at the bottom so that when your reader is done reading your post and then sees the form, he/she will have the urge to get more by subscribing to your list.

You can also attract your visitors to subscribe to your email list by displaying enticing free gift items like eBooks and then prompt them to sign up before getting the items. Commenting: Post comments on other peoples blog, you might have been trying this for a long time now and it might seems it’s not working, this is how to make it work: comment on blogs that requires you to type in your URL, when commenting, frame your comment and try to make it solve another person’s problem on the comment section and then include a link to your site.

Don’t just drop a link to your site on the comment section because the blog admin will consider it a comment spam thereby deleting your comment. You can also apply a little hack by adding a hyperlink to your blog. For example, if you posted a comment and you want to make one of the words in your comment clickable, then add this code before the text you want to serve as a link <a href=“yourURL”> and also add this one after the text </a>. Let me illustrate this using a typical comment enclosed in this quotes “thanks admin, your post was really nice, keep posting more <a href=”yourURL”>blogging tips</a> for us.


The word “blogging tips” in your comment will become a hyperlink that will lead anyone who clicks it to your blog.

6. Link popularity: making your link popular is somehow demanding and difficult. You can make your link popular by letting people link their post to a particular post in your blog. 

The best method of acquiring links is by being as personal as possible, contact the admin of the blog you want to get your blog linked with>> try befriending him as much as possible>> tell him about your plight and how beneficial it would be for him to link you to his site>> get his approval and submit the link to him. Contacting a popular site owner and getting linked is difficult so try out the ones that are likely going to agree to it.

7. Articles directories: register, write and submit useful articles to article directories. When a reader finds your article useful, he will likely want to check out your blog for others and this is how the traffic begins to flow, before you know it, you are already booming with 30k traffic per month.

MAKE YOUR BLOG FOUND BY GOOGLE BY SUBMITTING YOUR SITEMAP TO GOOGLE WEBMASTER

Submitting a sitemap to any search engine is a major step in search engine optimization. A lot of bloggers will go around telling you how to generate traffic by commenting on other peoples blog, writing guest post and sharing links but they sometimes fail to tell you the most important one of them all which pays well, how are you going to generate traffic to your site if people don’t know about your blog’s existence; it’s just impossible!

As it stands now 70-80% of site visitors no longer access websites through the direct entry of your web URL on the browser but through a search on google; so you will reason with me that if your site is invisible to search engines then you are already losing a lot of traffic and also a lot of money because in blogging, “Traffic is Money”.

Your traffic rate determines the number of clicks you will get on your ads and also your income, a blog with low traffic is likely going to be low in income generated through ads click because the ads can’t click themselves and most importantly, you can’t also click on your own ads.  A sitemap is a map that shows the structure of your blog, the number of URL on your blog and your contents. If your blog has been for long and you have published up to 1000 post, navigating through your old post by clicking next or previous can be very tedious and time consuming but a XML sitemap added to your blog will make this easy for your readers; they can easily locate your sitemap which is usually at the bottom of the page (the footer section) and go through it easily.

Another alternative to sitemap in a blog is making your blog smooth in terms of navigation, add drop down menus, labels and archives at strategic positions to help make it easier to go through your old post. There are ready made template for blogger blogs that already have drop down menus and top to bottom navigation keys attached to them,  so all you need do is download one, open your edit HTML section and locate the menu bars, replace the default URLs with your desired URL and your blog will be up and running in no time.

The sitemap you are about to submit now is not the type that will help your readers locate contents on your blog but rather, it will enable googlebots crawl your blog and index your contents with ease. 

SUBMITTING SITEMAP TO GOOGLE

Submitting a sitemap to google is not a tedious task, you don’t need any coding idea or to be a HTML pro, in fact all it needs is your google account which I believe you created one before creating your blogger blog. To submit your sitemap to google webmaster tools which is now called search console for index, you need to first and foremost verify your blog ownership, yes!

This is proper, google is security inclined so they don’t want to get their self in any awkward situation of you submitting a sitemap to another person’s blog. Already, blogs created on blogger are automatically verified but there might be the need for additional verification and the best method so far which will also be easier for you is the “meta tag method”.

Let’s make this in form of sequence of steps for ease of comprehension. If you have already verified your blog, then you can skip these steps but if you haven’t, do this to verify your blog:

Visit google webmasters which is now called search console. In Webmaster Tools

1. Click the "Add a site" button on the Webmaster Tools Home page

2. Enter your blog's URL (for example, bloggingcrib.blogspot.com) and click the "Continue" button to go to the Manage verification page

3. Select the "Meta tag" verification method and copy the meta tag shown to you. Then head over to your blogger.

In Blogger

4. Go to your blog and sign in >>choose the blog you are verifying.

5. From the Blogger dashboard click the "template” button for the blog you're verifying

6. Click the "Edit HTML" link beside the customization button which will allow you to edit the HTML for your blog's template

7. Paste the meta tag (copied in step 3) immediately after the <head> element within the template HTML and click the "SAVE TEMPLATE" button. Now, head over to webmaster again.

8. On the Manage Verification page, confirm that "Meta tag" is selected as the verification method and click the "Verify" button. Your blog should now be verified. You can now follow these steps to submit your sitemap:

Step 1: sign in to your search console dashboard and select the blog you want to submit the sitemap for.

Step 2: click on the sitemap button

Step 3: at the top right hand corner of the page, you will see a red coloured button with the value “Add/Test sitemap”, click on this button as shown below by the screenshot

Step 4: A small box will appear after performing Step 3, on the box, copy and paste this code in the text field

 Step 5: click submit and refresh your page.

 Your sitemap will be pending for sometime so don’t be scared. The above code is what is required for your sitemap and it will work for a maximum of 500 posts only. Therefore in a situation in which you have more than 500 posts, you need to add another sitemap through the same same procedures as discussed above, but this time you are pasting a different code. This is the code for up to 1000 post

If you have up to 5000 post, then here is the simple trick to this:

Start-index=1: refers to the starting number of post

Max-results=500 refers to the limit to the number of posts in that sitemap. Now, if you have up to 3000 post, you only need to make changes to the start-index number alone.  The maximum results will always be 500 so don’t touch that part. For up to 3000 posts or more, add your sitemaps in this manner:

1^st sitemap: start-index=1 (this is the first code we pasted in step 4 which is from 1 to 500 post)

2^nd sitemap: start-index=501 (this is for 501 to 1000 post)

3^rd sitemap: start-index=1001 (from 1001 to 1500 post)

4^th sitemap: start-index=1501 (from 1501 to 2000 post)

5^th sitemap: start-index=2001 (from 2001 to 2500 post)
