Airtel, MTN, Glo and Etisalat allows their subscriber to loan or borrow airtime from them in case of emergency or any other urgent issue arising. This is a very good act of care and kindness shown by the four major Internet Service Providers running here in Nigeria. With the airtime loan access, you no longer have to get scared of running out of airtime or hanging up your calls prematurely due to lack of airtime. Before you are able to borrow airtime from MTN, Glo and Etisalat, you have to beat certain criteria which are usually termed eligibility status. These conditions are different for each Internet Service Provider and usually involve the use of their SIM card for at least 3 months of age and the recharge of certain minimum amount of airtime in a month. We are going to see these conditions as we proceed.
MTN introduced the MTN Xtratime plan to enable their eligible customers to borrow airtime (credit) from them. This has saved a lot of their customers from going through the stress of going out in the night to buy airtime or finding their selves wanting in the case of emergency. Like I said before, in order for you to be able to borrow airtime from MTN, you must be eligible for it, that is to say, there are certain criteria you must meet in order to be able to loan airtime from them. Before, the only existing criteria was that you must have airtime within the range of zero naira (N0) to twelve Naira (N12) and that you must have also repaid all outstanding debts from the previously borrowed airtime but now, they have added a new one which states that your MTN SIM card must be 90 days of age before you can get a loan from them.
Airtel Nigeria also has its own airtime borrowing plan; in fact, they are actually the first internet service provider to come up with this plan as at 2013. Just as it is called MTN Xtratime in the MTN network, it is also called Airtel TalkTime in the Airtel network. Airtel also has its own criteria which you must meet before borrowing airtime from them, this includes:
First, you need to create a 4-digit PIN which you will be using in carrying out all your airtime loaning transactions. To create your own PIN, simply dial *321#
Second, after creating your PIN, you can then proceed to borrow your airtime by dialing in this format *321* PIN*AMOUNT TO BE BORROWED# for example, if my PIN was 1234 and I wish to borrow N100 from GLO, I will dial *321*1234*100#
NOTE: A 5% service charge fee will be deducted from any amount you borrow from Glo network which is nothing compared to the 10% swallowed by MTN.
Etisalat just introduced their airtime loaning plan recently. Let’s see how it is done.

What this means is that if you borrowed N100 airtime from MTN, they will deduct N10 from it thereby giving you N90 but while you are paying back the loan, you are refunding N100 not N90; so this happens to be a downside but it’s better than none though.
HOW TO BORROW OR LOAN AIRTIME FROM AIRTEL
- Your Airtel line must be up to 3 months old (90 days).
- You must be a prepaid customer whose line is not suspended from using any of their services.
- You must have repaid all outstanding loan on the airtime collected previously.
You can borrow airtime from Airtel in two methods
Either you dial *500# and then choose from the options shown to you the amount of airtime you want to borrow which can either be N50, N100, N200 or N500
OR
you use the following codes below to choose any one of the airtime loans you desire.
Dial *500*50# for N50
Dial *500*100# for N100
Dial *500*200# for N200
Dial *500*500# for N500
HOW TO BORROW OR LOAN AIRTIME FROM GLO
You can borrow airtime from Glo in 2 simple steps.First, you need to create a 4-digit PIN which you will be using in carrying out all your airtime loaning transactions. To create your own PIN, simply dial *321#
Second, after creating your PIN, you can then proceed to borrow your airtime by dialing in this format *321* PIN*AMOUNT TO BE BORROWED# for example, if my PIN was 1234 and I wish to borrow N100 from GLO, I will dial *321*1234*100#

NOTE: just like MTN, Etisalat also deducts a 10% service charge from whatever amount of airtime you borrow from them. What this means is that if you borrowed N100 airtime from Etisalat, they will deduct N10 from it thereby giving you N90 but while you are paying back the loan, you are refunding N100 not N90.
